Equine Muscle & Soft Tissue Therapy
Step out of the vicious cycle and help your horse feel better.
Have you ever had thoughts like these? If so, you’re in the right place
- I feel like my horse isn’t quite right
- He can’t bend properly to the left/right
- He’s stiff and could be more flexible
- Even though I’m doing my best, he still won’t “take me on his back”
- He’s not moving from behind
- I want to prevent tendon or ligament injuries
- He resists the bit
- He’s tight in the left/right corner of his mouth
- He used to be better
- My trainer said it would improve with time, but it hasn’t
- I don’t know what’s wrong
- Competition season is starting, and I need my horse in top condition
- I want to compete and need my horse to perform at his best
- The season is over, and I want to give my horse the best care
- I want my horse to be healthy
Muscle & Soft Tissue Therapy
Equine Muscle & Soft Tissue Therapy is a targeted manual intervention in the soft tissues, aimed at improving the functionality of the musculoskeletal system, supporting regeneration, reducing tension, and restoring balance in the horse’s body.
The treatment focuses not only on relaxation, but also serves as an important tool for preventing and resolving specific functional issues that may affect movement, performance, and overall well-being.
Equine Muscle & Soft Tissue Therapy is not a luxury — it’s a necessity for your horse’s physical and mental well-being. Horses are masters of compensation – minor imbalances can build up over time, leading to pain, reduced performance, or even serious injuries.
Properly applied therapy works with both deep and superficial muscles to release:
Myofascial restrictions and muscle stiffness after training
Trigger points that can affect movement patterns
Asymmetries caused by one-sided strain
Tension from stress, improper movement, or muscle overload
The techniques used are always tailored to the individual needs and current condition of your horse.
7 Steps of the Vicious Cycle
- Unbalanced movement
The horse may unknowingly shift weight to one side, avoid bending, etc. Causes include one-sided workload, poor footing (slippery/hard/deep surfaces), ill-fitting saddle, rider errors, or compensation from an old injury. - Overloading of specific muscle groups
With repeated stress, some muscles overwork while others “shut down,” leading to tightness and reduced elasticity. - Stiffness, blockages, and painful points
Myofascial restrictions, active trigger points, and tight muscle chains gradually develop, limiting mobility and flexibility. - Altered movement patterns and compensation
To avoid pain, the horse changes its movement, disrupting its natural biomechanics and overloading other structures. - Fatigue, irritation, and reduced performance
Pain and tension lead to fatigue, frustration, poor cooperation, and resistance in training. - Microtraumas and increased injury risk
Overload leads to risks like tendon/ligament strain, tendinosis, spinal blocks (e.g., thoracolumbar area), painful SI joint, hoof issues and abnormal wear. - Limited recovery and chronic problems
If left untreated, tension sinks deeper into the tissue and becomes chronic. The vicious cycle continues.
Therapy Effects on Your Horse – Things You May Not Know
Cardiovascular System
- Reflex vasodilation and improved blood flow
- Increased circulation in superficial tissues
- More efficient nutrient and oxygen delivery to cells
- Faster removal of metabolic waste
Lymphatic System
- Supports lymphatic circulation
- Reduces lymphedema (swelling and fluid retention)
- Boosts white blood cell production and immunity
Nervous System
- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Promotes relaxation
- Stimulates endorphin and enkephalin release
- Alleviates pain by breaking the spasm-pain cycle
Connective Tissues
- Reduces keloid formation (excessive scarring)
- Limits development of adhesions and scar tissue
- Releases fascial restrictions
- Supports healing of connective tissue
Respiratory System
- Lowers respiratory rate
- Strengthens respiratory muscles
- Relieves laryngeal tension
- Promotes mucus clearance
Digestive System
- Stimulates colon emptying
- Helps with constipation
- Can relieve mild colic and bloating
- Boosts digestion
Therapy Effects on Muscles
- Releases muscular tension – muscles become more flexible and resilient
- Relaxes muscles – lowers sympathetic nervous system activity
- Reduces soreness and fatigue – better oxygen and nutrient delivery
- Reduces formation of trigger points
- Mechanically separates muscle fibers – reduces spasms
- Improves range of motion
- Supports proper posture, balance, and coordination
- Increases flexibility – lengthens muscle fibers
- Strengthens weak muscles
- Prevents tendon and ligament injuries
What techniques do we use?
- Práce se stress pointy
- Stress point therapy
- Deep Muscle Sports Massage
- Myofascial techniques
- Swedish massage
- Tapotement, Cupping, Vibration
- Effleurage, Petrissage, and more
Thanks to the combination of these methods, we can target specific problems, improve comfort in movement, and create better conditions for training and daily life.
